In modern society, scientific research, technological development and innovation (R & D & i) are an engine of economic growth and social welfare.

In recent years, all members and structures that make up the research, development and innovation (R & D & i) in Navarra have experienced a spectacular growth. From lower positions than the state average, in just over a decade Navarra has reached the top position among Spanish regions and is in positions close to the European average.

This report analyzes the “takeoff” of R & D in Navarra and especially innovation activities in small and medium enterprises (SMEs) networks, which are a pillar of development in the region.

The study was conducted from the theoretical perspective of “innovation system”, in particular its regional variant (“regional innovation system”), which emphasizes the influence of institutional factors, cultural and social innovation processes of companies.
